Liberty Mutual might have to pay a large amount of money to people claiming asbestos related injuries under a ruling by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Plastics Engineering is insured by Liberty Mutual. Thousands of people are claiming that products made by the company between the years of 1950 and 1983 that contained asbestos have injured them in some way.
In 2005 Liberty Mutual paid out .3 million to cover any claims that had been made through 2005. After that they tried to limit their responsibility by arguing that everyone who had been injured amounted to one single occurrence. The Wisconsin Supreme court ruled against Liberty Mutual, saying each person that has been injured has a separate case. The court says that Liberty Mutual will have to pay all costs of the injuries and not just a portion.
